Kenny J's
Is this South Jordan BBQ spot worth the hype? Absolutely yes.
Tucked right across the street from the Mega Plex in South Jordan lives a little slice of smoked meat heaven called Kenny J’s.

It’s family owned, full of charm, and, spoiler alert, totally worth ditching your sad desk salad for. We rolled in right at lunchtime with kids in tow and hangry enough to eat the entire menu. So, we basically did.
Let’s talk first impressions.
Real Smoke Real People
Before we even got to the food, I noticed something that made my little gluten free heart do a happy dance. Every single item on the menu is labeled for allergens.

As someone who usually has to interrogate a teenager behind the counter about cross contamination, this was a total win.
Behind the glass, the meat was steamy, juicy, and begging to be devoured. You could actually watch one of the staff members slicing and weighing each piece like it was a precious jewel. It was oddly mesmerizing.

Working the counter? None other than Mr. and Mrs. Kenny themselves. And yes, they were working. Cutting meat, chatting with customers, building plates, and radiating the kind of hospitality you just don’t get at chains.

And just to keep things real, when I review a place, I never reveal who I am or why I'm there. No special treatment, just the genuine customer experience. And Kenny J's passed with flying colors.
The Full Feast Because Obviously
We didn’t hold back. Pulled pork sandwich, smoked turkey, brisket, ribs, sausage. Done. Then we piled on mac and cheese, BBQ beans, and potato salad because, well, commitment.
By the drinks? A DIY bread box. Yes, a whole box of bread just waiting for you to build your own meat filled masterpiece. Obsessed.

And of course, in true Utahn fashion, they’ve got funeral potatoes on deck. It’s not a proper Utah BBQ without them. Even better? A gluten free version is in the works. Love to see it.
Taste Test Royalty

Now you guys know I’m picky. Like, gold standard level picky. And let me tell you this food was five out of five on the delicometer. I’m serious.

The meat was so tender I cut it with a fork. It had this bold, smoky flavor with just the right amount of salt and heat. The ribs? Fell off the bone like they were trying to impress someone. The turkey was so shockingly juicy and flavorful that I’m not even ashamed to say I’ll be back this week for pounds of it. Meal prep who?

The kids (my favorite taste testers and somehow even harder to please than I am) gave their full approval. They devoured the sides, inhaled the meat, and only had one little note: more sauce on the sandwiches. And you know what? Fair.

When they say it's good, you better believe it's excellent.
Behind the BBQ Magic
One of the coolest parts of Kenny J’s? They actually show you how the magic happens. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny invite customers to peek at their custom smoker which is practically the Tesla of smokers.

Mr. Kenny explained (with full sparkle in his eye) how they custom order their wood because dense wood = more flavor and juice. Science, but make it delicious.

The smoker is massive and smells like happiness and hickory.
Final Verdict
Listen. I know this isn’t Texas. But Kenny J’s BBQ is giving serious southern vibes with a Utah twist. You get incredible food, heartwarming service, and a family that clearly loves what they do. Do not skip this place.
Great people. Great meat. Great time.
See ya later loves.
